2022 UNAA Convention : Attorney Deo to tip Ugandans in the diaspora on land acquisition and land fraud in the real estate sector in Uganda.
Our C.E.P, Attorney Deo Kalikumutima will be speaking about the ABC of dos and don’ts of land acquisition in Uganda to Ugandans in the diaspora at the 34th Annual UNAA Convention & Trade Expo, to be held in San Francisco, California on September 4, 2022, at the Hilton San Francisco – Union Square, #UNAASF. The 2022 convention theme is: “Recovery beyond the pandemic: Embracing new opportunities for a greater diaspora”. The theme will be addressed through many unique and innovative ways, and our own Deo Kalikumutima will be one of the speakers who will be sharing their knowledge, experiences, and expertise.
Basing on his long term experience in the real estate sector in Uganda coupled with his experience as an Attorney, Mr. Deo Kalikumutima’s presentation will dig deep into the real estate sector land fraud and illegalities in Uganda and how to prevent them. Investing in the real estate sector in Uganda is among the top 3 wishes for every Ugandan in the diaspora, unfortunately, most of them are always defrauded due to lack of basic knowledge on how to detect and avoid land fraud. Such fraud formed the findings in the 2020 Annual Police Crime report which revealed that 319 land-related crimes were reported and a total of UGX. 4,108,400,000 was lost in fraudulent land transactions.
Attorney Deo Kalikumutima’s presentation comes at a time when Uganda just concluded the Land Awareness Week22 under the theme of “promoting Land rights for inclusive and sustainable Development.”
Considering that 9 out of 10 land cases arise out of fraud, equipping people with the right information is one way to reduce on land fraud and illegalities. During land acquisition, most Ugandans in the diaspora use relatives back home instead of registered professionals yet most of those relatives are prone to land fraud and unnecessary delay in the land transactions. Considering that Knowledge is power, such talks play a key role in empowering everyone with basic knowledge to detect and avoid land fraud.
