Our Chief Executive Partner, Counsel Deo Kalikumutima, was a featured speaker at the DFCU webinar titled “Estate Planning for the Diaspora: Protecting Your Wealth, Family & Legacy.”
During the session, Counsel Deo underscored the importance of estate planning as a vital tool for providing clarity, certainty, and continuity in wealth and family matters. He highlighted the need for clear and regularly updated estate planning documents, maintaining an up-to-date inventory of assets and debt obligations, and carefully considering issues of incapacity and disability within estate plans.
Counsel Deo further emphasized the value of appointing a limited and carefully selected number of executors to ensure effective administration of estates. He also challenged common misconceptions by reiterating that will-writing and estate planning are not reserved for the elderly or married individuals alone, but are equally important for single persons and families alike.
The webinar sought to equip diaspora members with practical insights on protecting assets in Uganda and ensuring a seamless transition of wealth to future generations. Discussions covered key topics including wills and trusts, succession of property and financial assets, protection of minor beneficiaries, planning for life events such as illness or bereavement, and common estate planning pitfalls to avoid.
The distinguished panel also included Mugisha Tonny, Team Leader at Eiton Capital; Joanita Male, Head of High Net-Worth & Diaspora Banking at DFCU Bank; and Priscillah Ann Nakalembe, Senior Legal Manager at DFCU Bank.
