The Chief Executive Partner of Kalikumutima and Co. Advocates,Deo Kalikumutima appeared before the Inspectorate of Government (IGG) probe into Shoddy Works by Real Estate Developers in Uganda. As a representative for diaspora homeowners, Counsel Deo advocated for improvements in mortgage and building compliance within the country. During the probe, Counsel Deo emphasized the importance of strict enforcement of building laws by regulators.
He expressed the view that regulators should take individual responsibility and face consequences if occupancy permits are issued for substandard buildings. He urged regulators to fulfill their duties and not simply rely on the title of being a regulator. Counsel Deo’s submission aimed to shed light on the necessity of ensuring quality standards in the real estate sector for the benefit and safety of homeowners.
He pushed for better mortgage and building compliance in Uganda. He called upon regulators to strictly enforce the building laws. He advised that where occupancy permits are issued for substandard buildings, the regulators should be individually punished. He challenged regulators to do their work. He explained to the Probe why it is not enough to say that they are regulators when you are not doing your work.
